HORSESHOE BEND NATIONAL MILITARY PARK
The Battle of Horseshoe Bend catapulted Gen. Andrew Jackson ("Old Hickory") into national prominence and led to his being put in charge of American forces at New Orleans in the War of 1812. Friendly Creeks and Cherokees helped Jackson defeat Menawa, the Red-Stick Creek Chieftain.
