Tournament of Roses Float

"SUMMERTIME," The See's Candy Shops float, was awarded the President's Trophy as one of the outstanding floats in the 1958 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif. More than 60,000 orchids were used to capture the delicate beauty of a butterfly's wings.

Thousands of chickens are broiled or fried for the crowd who enjoy exhibits, entertainment, and the food. Shown is the ORIGINAL WORLD'S LARGEST FRYING PAN where over 10,000 pieces of chicken are fried daily. Fired by tank gas jets, this 11 foot pan holds 100 gallons of cooking oil. The frying pan is seen in action.

The first World Food Fair held in the United States was in Topeka, Kansas as a featured event in the state's 1961 Centennial observances.

Baltimore and Ohio's Holly Tree by the Tracks

This magnificent 55-foot holly tree, with its red berries, is one of the largest in the East. It stands at Jackson, Md., alongside B&O's main line between Washington and New York, on land owned by the railroad. At the holiday season sprigs of holly taken from the tree are worn by the railroad's front-line employees, and the tree itself is beautifully decorated. Annually the members of the Baltimore & Ohio Women's Music Club, and Glee Club, with thousands of visitors gather at the tree about two weeks before Christmas to sing carols marking the first lighting of the tree for the season. In its Christmas dress of a thousand sparkling lights it is a bright landmark for train passengers on the New York-Washington run and for the entire countryside.

New York World's Fair 1964-65

The Unisphere® is the theme symbol of the Fair. Its top is 140 feet above the ground level and the globe is 120 feet in diameter with an open grid of latitudes and longitudes supporting the land masses. The reflecting pool beneath is 310 feet in diameter. It dramatizes the interrelation of the peoples of the world and their yearning for "Peace through Understanding."

Pumpkin Show

THE CIRCLEVILLE PUMPKIN SHOW at Circleville, Ohio is known as the "Biggest Free Show on Earth." Art shows, unusual exhibits and all kinds of food and drink made from pumpkins attract visitors from miles around during the three day festivities held each October.
