The Little Town of Rough and Ready

This historical marker is located at ehe site of one of the most widely known of the old "Gold Country" towns. It was founded by Mexican War veterans who named it after their old commander, Gen. Zachary Taylor — "Old Rough and Ready."

Christmas at Fenyes Mansion

STUDIO OF THE FENYES MANSION

Sylvanus Marston was the architect for this room added in 1911 which was used for concerts, plays and gatherings of artists in early Pasadena. The Christmas decorations reflect the elegance of the Edwardian period. Since 1970, the mansion has been the home for the Pasadena Historical Society.

Reconditioned by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad to run under its own power, the famous locomotive started on April 14, 1962 a series of Civil War Centennial tours. This first stop was made at the point where the "great locomotive chase" of Apro; 12, 1862 began. Union raiders who stole the train and tried to wreck the W. & A. Railroad were overtaken and forced to abandon the General about ninety miles away near Ringgold, Ga., ending one of the most dramatic events of the war. This historic engine is now housed at Kennesaw, Ga.

Erie Railroad -- 100th Anniversary

It was a great day on May 15, 1851 when the New York and Erie Railroad, now the ERIE RAILROAD, completed its first run from Piermont, N. Y., on the Hudson River to Dunkirk, N. Y., on Lake Erie. It was the longest railroad in the United States — 446 miles long — and an important milestone in American history.

Historic marker on U. S. 81 south of Enid Oklahoma

Opened by Run, Sept. 16, 1893. On line here, 15,000 waited for carbine signal fired by cavalryman at High Noon. Lt. C. A. Hedekin, commanding Troop A, Y, S. Cav. Race for land started from post on Knoll half mile west, by wagon, buggy, bicycle, horse and train. In 60 by 90 mile area, every acre claimed by nightfall. The first settlers reached Enid from here.
