Scenic beyond compare, the Trans-Canada Highway at Jackass Mountain contains one the many interesting stories of B.C.'s gold rush days.

Jackass Mountain--a memorial to a mule. wearied by its struggle over the steep, twisting Cariboo Road, one loaded mule reared, bucked, and fell to its death in the canyon. The long stream of freight animals closed their ranks and plodded onward to the distant Cariboo goldfields.

Sno-Go in Mountain Pass

SIERRA BLANCA PEAK (12,003 ft.) In summer is covered with wild flowers which attract humming birds by the thousands. During the winter it is covered with snow ranging in depths up to 60 feet. To the north of this peak is the southwest's finest and largest winter sports area. This view is from U. S. Highway 70 in the Mescalero-Apache Indian Reservation near Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Death Valley National Monument

Strange as it may seem the highest and lowest points in the U.S.A. are only 80 miles apart. Mt. Whitney to the west of Death Valley has an elevation 14,495 ft. while a point near Bad Water is some 280 feet below sea level, this being the lowest point in the western hemisphere.
